  1. A child shot with a bit of trickery thrown in. The original is a
  2. medium format colour slide and the idea came from a trick our
  3. youngest son, pictured here, had acquired on holiday in Majorca.

  5. The picture is a double exposure in the camera, as it needs to be
  6. in this case. A mono version could have been done in the darkroom
  7. from two separate negatives.

  12. I use a rules viewfinder screen in the Mamiya camera, which helps
  13. set up such shots - but is not obligatory. The child was
  14. carefully lit with brolly flash and shot leaving space above his
  15. head.

  17. Using the double exposure device, the shutter was cocked again
  18. without winding the film and the halo shot to complete the
  19. effect. Obviously the background must be black for both shots.

  21. The halo is a disk of white card, lit with yellow light and shot
  22. out of focus - as simple as that.
